In my pursuit of Sicily, I have found there are so many ways to engage with this island even from afar.
...Some ways of connecting are directly related to my travels- like reflecting on past trips through reviewing all the pictures taken. It is sadly too often that photos languish without being shared... however this blog has already been an inspiration to complete some long overdue photo projects!

Over the years, I have been able to bring some of our digital pictures into the physical world using Blurb to print off small collections into books. Recently, I've used their platform to create magazines and just awaiting to receive the most recent edition [cover image above.]
...Other ways of connecting remotely have been through exploring popular culture. Currently, my husband and I have been making our way through a translated audiobook of author Andrea Camilleri's 'The Patience of the Spider' (#8 in the Inspector Montalbano series) as well as watching the tv shows based off the author's stories in the fictional town of Vigata (many scenes filmed in Ragusa Ibla; pictures above & below are from our October 2024 trip to that area*.)
...And following with the Montalbano character's absolute love of food- I've enjoyed trying out recipes new to me whenever I have the time [this weekend I made: Parmigiana di melanzane alla siciliana (Sicilian Style Eggplant Parmesan]
Little by little, the learning adventure continues whether here or there. I'm excited to embark on this journey and see where it will take me.
*Ragusa Ibla is the lower/ older town area of the city of Ragusa. It is full of Baroque style buildings and is an UNESCO World Heritage site along with other cities in the Val di Noto located in Eastern Sicily. My husband and I visited briefly on our 2024 trip and Ragusa is one of the places we would like to come back and spend more time in.
Alla prossima
😊
